Chicken over rice

The best chicken rice I've had in New York is in Astoria, from a street cart off the Broadway stop. The portions are huge, the chicken is tender and juicy, the sauces are flavorful. If you ask, they'll add a few falafel to the package. All for five dollars. So much of my favorite food seems to be in Queens. My favorite Thai food is in Queens (Sri Pra Phai), though along a different subway line. My favorite place for Indian sweets is also found in Queens. And one of my favorite pizza places is also in Astoria (Sac's Place), though I have yet to go to Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. I know, shameful.

This cart is in Manhattan, on Broadway. A friend of mine remarked that there seem to be ever more of them and we began to wonder if they'd take over hot dog stands as the predominant street food in New York, whether in the future people would associate New York with falafel instead of foot longs.

I just went to the chicken and rice cart on 53rd and 6th. It's frequently voted the Best in NYC. It was 11 PM and the lines stretched down the block. What a sight. And the food was delicious. This NYT article discusses how Halal cart vendors have overtaken hot dogs.

I'm hoping to go to Sri Pra Phai for the first time tomorrow with my sister who lives in Woodside. I hear so many great things about it.
