Weekend stroll
While I enjoy my neighborhood, on the weekends I flee. The sidewalks become overcrowded with groups of people who either shuffle their way down the streets or stand still. I usually end up walking in the street.
In Tokyo, I was amazed at how quickly even the most congested foot traffic moved along the sidewalk. I was so swept up by the flow of pedestrians, I couldn't even pause to take a photograph. My first night there was a dream. I was jet-lagged and had arrived at a late hour, but I couldn't rest. I had to be out in the streets; I had to feel what it was like to walk through Tokyo at night.
This photo was taken on a gentler day, walking up Broadway. I had set the camera, and then decided that instead of crouching down for this shot, I would just shoot from the hip.
