Pigeons roost on a lammpost, W 55th Street, NYC
This is another photograph art directed by yw.
One of my classmates in high school had a street in our town named after her. Her father was a real estate developer, and when a new subdivision went in, he reserved a street for her. Everyone gave her a hard time about it, but there was no doubt a tinge of jealousy mixed in with all the ribbing. I think the street might have ended in a cul-de-sac, which made it somehow worse
While the majority of Manhattan's streets are numbered sequentially in an easy grid, a few of the streets are named for prominent people in history: W.C. Handy Way, for example. I can't help but think that this street has an alternate name, but I can't think of it at the moment.
This photograph also makes me think of the sneakers that can be found hanging from power lines. People tie the shoelaces together and then throw them up into the wires. I seem to remember reading once about what this was supposed to symbolize; when I ask other people, they tell me there's no symbolism. Somehow, I just can't seem to recall anything at the moment.

I really like your photos. The thing that sold me off was that all of them are black and white.
Regarding the symbolism of a pair of sneakers hanging on the phone lines, the most well known urban myth is that it symbolizes gang activity or that there's a drug dealer nearby.
Cheers!
jamo, thanks for the comment. and thanks for letting me in on the urban myth. i wonder if the type of shoe matters. or if people start putting up dueling shoes if there's multiple players in a certain environment. or maybe i'm trying to make too much out of it.
I'm loving these b&w's.
thanks simone! i'm glad you're liking the new blog! and the new photos. i love my new camera.
