Walking up Sixth Avenue, little lady liberty stops to survey her surroundings
I forget why I was walking up the Avenue of the Americas. I was with yw, however, and as we found ourselves following this group of tourists, she told me I should take a picture of them. I did.
The last time I went to Liberty Island, I was with Ed. One afternoon we decided to go to Ellis Island. Neither of us had been and one or the other of us was about to embark on an oversees trip. We passed through Liberty Island; I can't remember if we had to alight. I have a picture of us standing on the ferry.
The first time I was much younger. I was visiting my cousins in New Jersey and they brought us into the city for the day. I remember walking up into the crown for the few moments of fresh air that it afforded and the glimpse of lower manhattan. I wondered what it was like to stand in the torch. And I was surprised how long the lines were for the elevator. In the time it took us to walk to the top and back, our parents had just made it to the base.
