Dim sum still life, Chinatown NYC

I forget whose idea it was to have dim sum; if someone invites me I rarely say no. There have been weekends in the past where I've gone to dim sum Saturday and Sunday. I've gone twice in one day.

This photo was taken at Dim Sum Go Go, where I haven't been in some time. The last time I went, my friend pointed out a model I didn't recognize; I never recognize anyone.

My favorite dim sum memory comes from Taiwan. I was visiting for the summer and my grandmother had come on a trip of her own. She arranged to meet me in a dim sum restaurant somewhere in Taipei. We were joined by childhood friends of hers, and it was a joy to see her interact in such a girlish manner with them. She asked me what I liked to eat. After I mentioned one item she leapt from her seat and raced across the restaurant to secure the dish from a passing cart. I was afraid to mention another.

That day a hurricane was threatening the coast, and the wind blew rain hard against the windows of the restaurant. At one point, a window flew open and waiters rushed to secure it. The streets flooded.
