Travellers at Port Authority
I love airports for the convergence of people and for the seemingly endless possibility of travel they offer. It's almost as if you're connected to anywhere in the world. Walking through the terminals, looking at the gates, there's such a sense of possibility.
I tend not to feel the same way about bus stations, at least in the United States. The first time I took a bus in the States, it was Pittsburgh to New London; I barely remember the bus station, but I seem to remember it being in a somewhat depressed area of town. Buses seem marginalized here, where everyone owns their own car. In other countries, where buses are a major source of public transportation, the stations are usually abuzz with activity.
I shot this in New York's Port Authority bus station while waiting for a friend. I was watching people as they ran for their buses. There's something fun about watching people run; there's such joy in the motion, though they may not feel it if they're stressed about missing their ride home.
