Two women stop to chat, Prince between Broadway and Crosby

I walk by this building almost every weekday on my way to work. It reminds me of a structure in Bagan, in Burma. In Bagan, I remember biking up to a hulking structure in the middle of the plains, a solid square block of brick. I climbed up onto the roof and sat upon that platform for a while, writing postcards and staring out at the other temples dotting the landscape. Something about this building reminds me of the mass of that ancient structure, small windows dotting an imposing façade.

In the mornings, the sun rakes across the side of the building, slanting shadows down the street. This morning, I was lucky enough to catch the effect.
