A worker looks down from a SoHo roof

I'm leaving soon for Asia. I can't wait. I'm debating how to shoot while I'm away, and I'm leaning towards shooting primarily in black and white. I want to see what Japan and Taiwan (specifically Taipei) look like in black and white.

This photo was taken while walking to work. A man was bringing a pail up to the roof, and I watched as he shouted down to his colleague, who was stabilizing the rope. It looks like dangerous work, but maybe more so to me as I tend to have a certain fear of heights.

When I was still in college I spent one summer painting houses. One particular house was perched on a hill overlooking the surrounding valleys. As we began painting the top floors, we took the opportunity to step onto the roof to admire the view. One of my fellow painters said that he used to be very afraid of heights. He told us he overcame it by skydiving. He figured he'd never again fall from such a height, and if he could get over that then he wouldn't have to worry about standing atop a two-storey house.

Love your work! can't wait to see what you do in asia. It is such a wonderfully colourful place. Definately take some colour rolls too.
