Misted trees, Ali Shan, Taiwan
I'm still looking through my Japan photos and deciding what to do with them. In the meantime I may post some of the photos I took in Taiwan.
Sophia and I had taken the high speed train from Taipei to Chiayi and then a bus to the top of Ali Shan. We had got to a slightly late start and we arrived a few scant hours before nightfall. A dense fog had set atop the mountain, and we bundled up against the cold. Our hotel proprietor suggested we take one of the alpine trains further up the mountain to explore some of the paths. She said if we hurried, we'd catch the last train. We did.
We took the train to the sacred trees trail and asked the train conductor for suggestions on which trail to take. He sized us up and recommended one that climbed just in front of the train. We thanked him and began walking. The woods emerged from out of the mist on either side of us. In the distance, we could hear a temple gong. Sophia took photos of the bark and roots; I took photos of the mist. This is one.

Really like the atmosphere in this shot. Photographically the density and temperature are fantastic visual aspects.
thanks for your comment. i was hoping to take more photographs this evening, but the sun set pretty quickly and we were left in the dark.
Nice!
Wow, the pic looks stunning. I remember visiting this place while in Taiwan and watching the sunrise. How awesome.
yeah. we got up for the sunrise too, and it turned out better than i had imagined it. where did you go to see it?
Near where the train dropped us off to see the sunrise.
