Florent, NYC
The New York Times ran an article today about Florent, the long-standing soon-to-close restaurant in the meatpacking district. I was never a regular. I've been twice. Maybe three times. I remember the first time. It was a late night, and I had met up with a couple of friends in the area. It was loud. Though it looked like a diner, cloth tablecloths suggested a slightly more upscale experience. I ordered the mussels and fries, which were delicious. I remember being tired, and stumbling home in the early hours of the morning.
Most recently, I went for a late lunch, early dinner. I was walking in the area with another friend, and we both had read it was closing. It was a place I knew about and took for granted. Now that the days were numbered, we decided to go and once again have the moules frites. I took this photo then. We were just between services. The tablecloths were coming out, and the candles were being set. The restaurant was relatively empty, calm before the start of the dinner rush. We determined to go back once again before they close. Most recently, I was thinking of going on my birthday, but I haven't determined yet exactly what to do on that day.
Though I rarely went, I'll miss knowing it's there.

I like this picture a lot... the narrow strip of mirror provided a glimpse to what's going on in the restaurant in a panoramic way. Like the grains too, well done!
thanks yee. i ended up going there for my birthday and saying my goodbyes to the place then. it was a delicious meal and i sat next to a woman who had first gone about when it opened. you could feel the love for the place.
