Cowboy hat, Brooklyn NY
Last Friday Yw and I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge to look at Olafur Eliasson's waterfalls. From above, near the tower on the Brooklyn side, you could see the top of one of the waterfalls through the wooden slats. Small crowds gatherd and dispersed to catch a glimpse of the mechanics.
Once across, we descended and headed towards the water. The lines for Grimaldi's pizza were long. The lines for the ice cream stand were slightly less so. We walked along the pier and then alongside it, where a small park advertised a larger park to come. A tent on one side sold food. Next to it, a large sandbox was populated with children; their parents looked on from the edges. Two grassy hills peeked out from the concrete sidewalk. We found an empty spot and settled in.
From our vantage point we could make out all four waterfalls, though some were harder to see than others. From our angle, the one under the Brooklyn Bridge felt slightly more lush. A strong wind blew the water towards Manhattan.
We took our time. Waves of tourists came and went. Families gathered their kids. Planes took off from Newark and flew east. The sun set and the waterfalls became lit from below.
I took this photo just before dusk. The man had just arrived and was taking in the view with his wife. They didn't stay long. I don't remember if I saw them take photos of their own.
