Queens through a screen, NY

It may be a suburban thing, but the summer makes me think of screen doors and window screens. If I think about it for a moment, I can even hear the sound of the screen door opening and closing so that people can gain access to a deck or patio. And I can hear the sound of a wood pole drop behind the glass door at night for added security.

I took this photo at PS1. In the stairwells leading up to the floors, white screens block the sun from shining into the museum. This window looked out onto the street. I had noticed the view on previous visits, and I probably took a similar shot in the past, though not in black and white. I paused for a moment to take this one before entering the galleries housing the Olafur Eliasson exhibit.

Anyway, the fourth of July has always felt like the true beginning of summer. I wish readers in the United States a happy and safe holiday. Enjoy the fireworks and barbeques. I think I'm going to see about catching up on some summer popcorn movies. Though I think I'll leave the actual popcorn alone for the time being.
