Man's back, Brooklyn bridge, NYC

I took this photo a few weekends ago while crossing the bridge to see the waterfalls. You can see almost all of them while walking the span. I was taking a photo of one of the waterfalls to the north when I saw this man approaching, and included him in the frame (unfortunately he occludes the waterfall).

Lately, I've been wondering how I would have reacted to New York if the city then was like it is now. It's changed a lot in the intervening years. I wonder if I would have found it as exciting or if it would have felt more familiar. It's always hard to imagine things as they were or could have been or are at different times of one's life. It's an impossible task, and yet it passes the time.

A friend's been asking me how to take photos where figures in motion are blurry. This one comes close, but it's not quite as blurry as I think she'd like it. I told her to find a light meter and I'd explain all the relationships to her.

Earlier this afternoon, there was a cockatiel perched on the fire escape. When someone tried to coax it into the building, it flew away.
