Reserved. La Taqueria, NYC
For a period of two weeks I was addicted to the soft tacos here. A few times a week I would go to order a fish taco and a tinga de pollo. I was never a huge fan of the tortillas (I wish they were flour or whole wheat instead of corn) but there was something about the tacos that I couldn't shake.
The restaurant is a small place, reminiscent of a diner, if the diner only had a counter at which to sit. Inevitably, it's crowded. The counter itself looks north out onto the street. Just across the street is a small park paved over with asphalt. Occasionally, art installations take over the space. Right now it's under construction.
An upscale restaurant is attached to the taqueria; the tables set up for al fresco dining belong to it. I'm not sure what the reserved signs mean, probably just that they're reserved for customers of the more expensive restaurant.
I took this photo one afternoon while waiting for my tacos. A group and their dog had just left. The table had been reset, but the bowl of water for the dog had been left on the street.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person that can eat tacos more than once a week. I, too, am not a big fan of corn tortillas, but eat 'em anyway because, y'know, they're tacos.
ha. i've managed to break the spell for the time being, but who knows when the desire for tacos will strike once again!
