Inside the Hermitage, St. Petersburg

I love watching people in museums, seeing how they look at the art and how they interact with each other. This past Monday I went to the Guggenheim to see the Catherine Opie photographs. A group show titled Theanyspacewhatever had taken over the rotunda. Phrases and sentences dotted the walls. In one area, an installation turned the sterile white space into an audio tropical paradise. In another area, lazer-cut cardboard turned another corridor into a maze of swiss cheese. At the top of the museum, a small area served coffee, and an open bedroom could be rented out for the night. Unfortunately, every night had already been booked.

This photo was taken at the Hermitage, which would find its companion a few blocks further down Fifth avenue at the Met. I just thought it'd be interesting to use this photo as an opening upon which to remember my extended weekend.

It's not a Hermitage. It's a Russian Museum. Nice BW. Best wishes from Petersburg )
