Irkutsk by the Angara River, Russian Federation

I took this photo while crossing the river from the train station into the city proper. I had gone to the station to take some photos. A light rain fell, and then a heavier one. I was to leave later that day, but took the time to take some photos of the train station before I would be laden down with my luggage. In the end, the photos I took while waiting for the train proved better than those I took on this preliminary outing.

With the afternoon ahead of me, I wandered the city. I had had a large lunch and debated having another meal before boarding the train for Mongolia. It would take almost two days to arrive in Ulaan Batur, and I contemplated a final good Russian meal before the next leg of my journey. In the end it was not to be. I was too full from lunch. I ended up eating reconstituted noodles on the train as we passed Lake Baikul under cover of darkness, the big dipper illuminating the night sky.
