MoMA atrium, NYC
A few weeks ago I went to MoMA for the Miro exhibit. A Pipilotti Rist installation had taken over the atrium, and I stopped to let the large-scale video projection encircle me. People sprawled about the area; children played inside a donut of cushions that had been set up in the center of the room.
Afterwards I climbed the stairs to the sixth floor galleries. The Miro was packed, and I quickly made my way through the exhibit. On the way out, I peered down into the atrium from the skywalk and took this picture. While I'm somewhat ambivalent about the atrium itself (and the architecture of MoMA on the whole), I do love the way in which the atrium allows for these views through the windows on various levels into the other galleries.

The angles and the thick line across the composition give this picture movement and tension, but what really makes it for me are the shadows on the walls in the lower portion. Ghostly.
thanks philip! this photo definitely came out better than i had anticipated. and i agree with you on the shadows in the lower right.
compositionally this is great - full of repeating triangles!!
thanks dylan!
