Coney Island parachute jump, NYC

The Cyclone opens today for another summer. Stories abounded when Astroland closed and pictures showed the wasteland it had become, but the rest of Coney Island is gearing up for another summer, from Nathan's Hot Dogs to the freak shows to the Wonder Wheel to the Cyclone. The future, however, is still in flux. The developer who owns the land continues to consider plans to build hotels and high rises on the land, while the mayor seeks to preserve it as an entertainment center. Some call this the Second Annual Last Summer. I wonder if there will be a third.
