In front of the Museum of Natural History, NYC
It's grey and rainy in New York today, much as it was the day I shot this photo, which I believe was sometime last year. The main exhibition at the museum was "Horses," though I'm uncertain whether the horse in the photo is a permanent fixture on the patio of the museum or if it was advertising the show. I had gone late in the day and decided to skip the exhibition; I was more interested in touring the rest of the museum and refamiliarizing myself with its layout.
Of the museums in New York, I visit the Museum of Natural History infrequently, and am always surprised by the breadth of its offerings. I visit the planetarium even less. This past weekend, I rode a bus down Columbus Avenue past the museum and Simone mused about the weather and the way in which time elides memory. She jumped forward a few months to November and imaginged the balloons filled in preparation for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.
We had gone together years before, but I haven't been back to see the balloons since, though I often plan to. It's one of those events along with the elephants walking across the city to the circus that I always have a mind to attend, but when the dates arrive, either I lose them or seem to be busy with other things. This year, I had just returned from Boston the night of the elephant parade and was too tired to make it to the midnight march.
