A woman walking, midtown, NYC

It was a quiet weekend in New York. I had forgotten it was Memorial Day and was surprised to find so much of the city shuttered and empty. I spent much of the weekend at the park, on a blanket on the lawn. I read, I napped. I had a light picnic with a friend. The weekend was cool, then hot, then perfect. I wish it could have gone on.

The city was not devoid of tourists, however; though when the city is full of people from out of town it takes on a completely different feeling. It's a strange and subtle difference, but it's there. Everything seems to take on a slightly different connotation, and I felt almost as if I did not belong.

This photo was taken a few weeks back on another weekend walking through midtown. I was again en route to the park. I might have come from a museum. I lingered here for a bit watching people walk past the barricade. I took a few photos. Of them, I liked this the best, even if it is a bit (or perhaps it is a bit) askew.
