New York marathon, NYC

The other night I watched Prefontaine. A friend recommended it. The movie was a hybrid of sorts, part documentary, part drama. It wasn't a great film but it was fascinating. Both Prefontaine and his coach, Bill Bowerman, were amazing individuals. If nothing else, it made me want to run!

I've been running off and on for the past year or two, though only short distances. I keep trying to build up to a 5k, but I lack the discipline to run regularly and add mileage. Last winter I came close, but then the cold hit and I stopped running. I've heard that once you reach 5k, you feel like you can run forever. It must be an amazing feeling, that.

The same friend is soon going to prepare for a half-marathon. She's going to run the New York Marathon next year. She may run this year if she wins the lottery for a bib. She's already qualified for the next.

I took this photo at last year's marathon. I stood near the finish line and saw the elite runners pass, seeming to sprint towards the finish line. Their strides were beautiful, their heads barely moved. I can't wait to cheer my friend on.
