Statue of Liberty, NYC
The weekend before last I rode the Staten Island Ferry. I went to tour the Staten Island botanic gardens and visit the Chinese scholar's garden there. I had learned about it a few months ago, when I was researching botanic gardens in the city. I was looking for alternatives to Central Park in order to escape the crowds. I had been to the gardens in the other boroughs; this was my first time at the ones on Staten Island.
The ferry ride is one of the best things about visiting. A photographer I TA'd a class for had recently moved to Staten Island and I asked him what he thought about commuting by boat. He was still caught up in the romance and enamored of it. I think that (barring the cold winters and choppy seas) I'd never grow tired of it. It reminded me of movies where the main character lived on a house boat in Seattle or tired up along the Seine and how cool I thought it would be to live on a boat.
I took this photo of the Statue of Liberty from the ferry. I had hoped the ferry would draw closer, but I like this view of the two boats in the foreground. The crown has recently re-opened and I'm thinking of visiting the statue later this summer or perhaps in the fall (if it's still open to visitors then).
I think this is the first Holga shot I've posted to this blog. I haven't shot with the Holga in a while, but seeing this makes me want to keep it in my bag. I'll be posting more Holga shots in the future.

thanks pavlos. there's something about a holga that manages to make almost anything moody. :-)
