Macy's windows in progress, NYC
It's a bit of a hectic week for me; I'm attending three weddings in three states. Fortunately, the three states abut each other, but it's been exhausting. This weekend I attended back-to-back weddings: New York on Saturday and Rhode Island on Sunday. Tonight I leave for Connecticut to prepare for the third. I'm in the wedding party, so tomorrow we have to pick up our tuxes and rehearse for the ceremony on Friday. I wonder if I'll hear Chris Brown at the reception, making for a "Forever" trifeca.
I don't have much recollection of the flower arrangements at the weddings, save for the centerpieces at the reception. And the bouquet on Sunday (my cousin caught the bouquet). Both weddings were outdoors, which probably cut down on the flower displays, though the Sunday wedding had some flowers attached to a small frame under which the couple stood.
The flowers in this photo were made of paper. It was part of a Macy's window display. I think it would be cool to have paper flowers at a wedding, though the amount of time it would take to make them all would be considerable. I believe the Macy's staff was making paper flowers for weeks in preparation for these windows.
And yes, that's me reflected in the window holding my Rollei 35S. :-)

VERY striking combination of elements here. The juxtaposition of inanimate dummies, and the shop-workers rendered inanimate by your freezing them in film. The contrasting colours between them highlight this. And then yourself included, subtley as a reflection as you reflect upon the scene in front of you. The buzz of life and advertising slogans all around. Excellent.
Wonderful contrast and tonal quality. Excellent!
great contrast
Excellent black and white processing. The reflection is very interesting.
thanks for all the comments!
john » i love the way you've interpreted the scene. it goes beyond what i had in mind.
ken, hafiz + cako » thanks! i have a great lab that processes the negatives for me and does the flat scans. if i were to make prints, i do those myself in the darkroom, but i haven't had the time recently to make prints!
Nice picture!!
Nice image! I like the black and white and contrast!
thanks laurens! and incidentally, the two people pictured are actually visual merchandisers who work specifically on the macy's windows. macy's refreshes the windows fairly often, and have won many awards world-wide for their work!
wonderful!!!
