Russian wedding party, Staten Island Botanical Garden, NYC
Amazingly, this was not among the three weddings I attended last week. I stumbled upon this wedding party a few weekends ago while visiting the Staten Island Botanical Garden. I discovered the garden while researching alternatives to Central Park and was particularly intrigued by its Chinese Scholar's Garden, the first in the United States. The garden is Ming in design and houses a small collection of 18th and 19th cenutry Chinese furniture.
While we were visiting, a Russian wedding party arrived to take photos. I found it an odd confluence of cultures and altered realities, that a group of Russians would choose to take their wedding photographs in a Chinese garden in the middle of Staten Island; at the same time it was brilliant. It seemed so absurdly New York. It also seemed fitting given that last year I was immersed in both cultures, having taken the train from Moscow to Beijing (photos of that trip can be found here and here).
And as far as the three weddings last week? In chronological order: one, two, three.

akshat: it's funny. until i took my second darkroom class, i didn't realize how much of photography is in the post production and printing. as a photographer friend of mine once said, tripping the shutter is the easy part.
ragi: thanks again for your kind comment.
