Howard Beach subway station, NYC
I'm getting ready for China; my flight leaves tonight. I've been frantically trying to tie up loose ends and pack. Unfortunately my bag is heavy. I'm not exactly certain of my itinerary and so I've erred on the side of caution with respect to different guages of clothing. And I'm carrying a suit, as I'm attending a wedding mid-way through my trip. And of course, one bag is full of film. I'm packing around 100 rolls of film and four cameras.
Before my trip, I'm planning on seeing Mark Morris perform at Lincoln Center. The show starts at 7:30, and is slated to run less than two hours. From there I'm going to take a cab to JFK. My flight leaves at half past midnight. I'm cutting it a little close, but I can't bear the thought of missing the dance performance.
I'll be gone for about seven weeks. I'm going to try to blog from the road, using out-takes from the project I shot in China last year. We'll see how it works. Unfortunately, they won't exactly match up with what I'm doing, but it's about as close as I can get; I won't be developing and scanning film while I'm away. :p
I wish everyone a great rest of the summer!

Have a great trip to China, I'm sure you will manage to capture many fascinating places. Love your B&W images, the dark contrasts and tones are excellent.

Reminds me of the movie night train. creeepy.
thanks amit. i actually took this when i was coming back from a trip somewhere (tho i don't remember now exactly what trip it was). for those of you not in new york, the howard beach stop on the A train is the stop for JFK airport.

The subway is a great place for street photography. I just got back from NYC.
feel like an old film-noir movie!
piet: i totally agree. i love shooting in the subway. one of my favorite books is bruce davidson's book of photos taken in the new york subway of the 80s.
