Police officers, The Bund, Shanghai

It's cold in New York. I can feel the winter approach. Last night, I was almost surprised it didn't snow.

I had dinner in Korea Town, sampling the Korean meal I didn't have in Seoul. I had a few hours in Incheon, and at first had hoped to have coffee with a friend of mine in the city. Unfortunately, it took longer to get off the plane and through customs than I had anticipated, and had I taken the bus in, I would have had to turn around and get back on when I arrived. Instead, I sat on the curb and enjoyed a bit of the sun and the air. It made me realize that international airports should have parks attached to them so that people on short layovers between distant lands can spend a little time outside.

The above image was shot on the Bund in Shanghai. There's something about that skyline that almost makes me think it's a matte painting, but there it is, just across the river.

I was at the Pearl Tower a few months ago and the view from up there was a 360 degree panorama of a matte landscape as well. There is a haziness about Shanghai; it feels viscous. do you know what I mean? I love the city, but when I come back home, I'm astonished at the crispness of everything.

i have to admit that though i've been to shanghai a few times i've never been to the pearl tower. i know what you mena about crispness, though. i've never seen a crisp day in shanghai. i've seen them in beijing, however. and on this past trip to uzbekistan i left bokhara on a beautifully crisp day. new york these days is anything but crisp, however.

I like how the b/w makes a modern scene look very retro and cool. Sort of reminds me of expo 67.

thanks gordon. there is something about the shanghai skyline that tends to appear both modern and retro to me. the architecture of the pearl tower definitely contributes to that.
