Dumbo snow, looking north

It's the first true snowfall of the season. The streets are quiet, and I've got Christmas music on the stereo. Simone was nice enough to let me invite myself over to her house for a tree-trimming. We ate pumpkin bread and drank hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps. She had Christmas music on from the time we walked in the door. David made turkey sandwiches for lunch and then tacos for dinner. They're both spending Christmas in New York this year and invited me over for dinner Christmas eve. I might go to midnight mass at St. John the Divine's for the experience.

Friday night I saw Tom Ford's A Single Man. We were running early so we spent some time looking at the Bergdorf Goodman window displays. Tourists crowded around taking photographs, trying to capture the essence of each window. Above us hung the Fifth avenue snowflake.

Today's storm caught me off guard. I didn't know it was coming until someone mentioned it yesterday. A friend was stranded at Newark and asked to stay with me. I'm waiting for him now.

Before making my way to Simone's, I went up to the Gagosian gallery to see the Roger Ballen exhibit and then peeked into the Whitney to see Georgia O'Keefe: Abstraction. The snow had just begun, and I decided to walk across Central Park to their apartment. Passing Turtle Pond, I thought of how magical it would be if they allowed figure skating upon it. It would be amazing to skate there, with Belvedere Castle in the backgrond.

The photo above was taken in the spring of this year, during a freak snowstorm. As for the current snowstorm, there's no sign of it abating, and I'm excited to wake up in the morning to discover a winter wonderland.

Great mood - I immediately thought of that lines from a Leonhard Cohen song "New York is cold, but I like where I'm living...".

Thanks Markus and Mary! I'm going to try to have some film developed this week so I can post at least one current photo of the snow. :-)
